Pasighat misses the Smart City bus, Itanagar joins the race

ITANAGAR, May 24: Pasighat, the headquarter of East Siang district has missed the Smart city bus for second time as it did not find place in the fresh list of 13 cities which qualified to be developed as smart cities.
However, the good news is that Itanagar, which was not included in the 100 cities shortlisted for the smart city competition will be able to participate in the next round with other cities. This was disclosed by Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah M Naidu at New Delhi while announcing the list of 13 qualified cities for smart city project on Tuesday.
It is pertinent to mention here that then Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in a meeting with Venkiah Naidu at New Delhi in September last year had appealed him for considering Itanagar under the Smart City project in addition to Pasighat which has already been included in the list of 100 cities for smart city race.
Despite giving a tough fight, Pasighat could not see its name in the first list of 20 cities, out of the 98 shortlisted for the Smart cities mission which was announced in January last. Pasighat got 52.5 marks in the first round against 54 cutoff mark set by the union ministry.
The century-old town of Arunachal Pradesh was given second chance and found its place in the list of 23 cities which vied for First Track smart city tag. Of the 23 cities, only 13 cities were selected under 'Smart City Mission'.
From the North East, Imphal and Agartala won the Smart city race in the second round, while Pasighat, Shillong , Namchi (Sikkim), Kohima, Aizawl failed to make its mark. These cities would, however, be able to participate in the next round of the competition.
Other cities which found its place in second list for smart city mission included Lucknow, Warangal in Telangana and Dharmashala in Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Raipur (Chhattisgarh), New Town Kolkata, Bhagalpur (Bihar), Panaji, Port Blair, Ranchi and Faridabad (Haryana).
Apart from Itanagar other six capital cities which are going to participate in the next round for competition for Smart city included Patna, Shimla, Naya Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), Bengaluru and Thiruva-nanthapuram.
Under the Smart City Mission, 100 cities across the country will be developed as smart cities by 2019-20 with the Union government providing financial support to the extent of Rs 48,000 crore over five years.
Each city selected in different rounds of competition will be given central assistance of Rs 200 crore in the first year and Rs 100 crore each during the subsequent three financial years.
State governments and respective urban local bodies will provide matching funds. (With inputs from PTI)
Uniform Land Compensation throughout the state: Pul
ITANAGAR, May 24: Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has made it clear that he will firmly stick to the Cabinet Decision of maintaining Uniform Compensation Rate of Rs 11 per sq metre throughout the state. He said that there would be no more review in the land compensation rate fixed by the govt. Pul informed this in a meeting with the executive members of All Tagin Youth Organization (ATYO) who were seeking for revision of the land compensation rate fixed by the govt recently.
Chief Minister while clearing doubts regarding the new land compensation rate said that previous compensation rate was reviewed by the govt in a cabinet decision after receiving complaints from various quarters that the rate was not uniform and manipulative in nature. He also informed that Govt of India is of the view that they cannot implement developmental project or construct roads in the state by buying land at high compensation rates. Due to this implementation of various important projects like 4-lane highway from Itanagar to Banderdewa has not moved ahead. The Govt of India has agreed for construction of the 4-lane Itanagar to Banderdewa road only after the fixation of uniform rate @ Rs 11 per sqmetre, informed Chief Minister.
He said, “We must be ready to part with small portion of our land, if we want development ”.
Chief Minister appealed the people of the state, student and community organizations, highway committees and all other stakeholders to cooperate with the govt in its pro-development programs and policies. He said, “Our govt will work towards development of the state and for development works to take place, peace and tranquility is a must”.
Further he added that every individual and organization has right to raise voice in a democratic country but also opined that it should not be at the cost of peace and development.
Assuring to start the re-assessment process of land compensation soon along the Trans-Arunachal Highways, Chief Minister informed that it is only a re-verification of the earlier one and the process will not take long time to complete as perceived. He appealed the student community to cooperate in the re-assessment process and also to educate the villagers in the remote areas. Parliamentary Secretary, Paknga Bage and Secretary Planning & Tourism, Joram Beda also attended the meeting.
Capital open their hearts for Seppa, raise Rs 15 Lakhs

ITANAGAR, May 24: The citizens of Capital complex have donated with open hearts, raising more than Rs 15 Lakhs for the Seppa fire victims.
The camp was jointly set up by the members of East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO) and Nyishi Elite Society East Kameng District Unit. On the second day of the fund raising, citizens came forward to raise more than Rs seven Lakhs, braving the scorching heat.
The total amount raised in two days has been Rupees fifteen lakhs fifteen thousand four hundred eighty. Last day of donation camp will be at Seppa on Wednesday.
Distinguished dignitaries have turned up to express their solidarity to fire victims. Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo has contributed Rs 2 lakhs through his OSD. Capital Complex MLA Techi Kaso and Koloriang MLA Pani Taram also joined the donation camp by contributing rupees fifty thousand each.
Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Singh and Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services General Manager Abu Tayeng joined the fund raising event and contributed their shares. Both administrators had already served the people of East Kameng earlier.
Various NGOs, students’ leaders, officers, and general public including commuters donated some cash and kinds for the fire victims. ESKWCO AGS Akhiya Pordung on behalf of organising team expressed gratitude to generous people who turned up to show their solidarity with the organising team and people of East Kameng. “We are truly overwhelmed by the noble gesture of the people, who have turned up in large number” Pordung added. The organising team also regretted if there was any inconvenience caused to public during fund raising event.
Rijiju, CM assures help, Doye family for CBI inquiry
ITANAGAR, May 24: Union MoS (Home), Kiren Rijiju has informed that he is in constant touch with Maharashtra Govt., particularly the DGP and SP of the Raigad District for the investigation into the Marnya Doye murder case.
Rijiju was interacting with the family members of Late Doye and GWS team on Sunday at Itanagar. The MoS added that the latest progress of the case would be informed within next two days. He also assured to do his best from his side so that the case is solved at the earliest.
Earlier, the family members of Late Doye and GWS team requested the MoS to expedite the case by handing over the case to the CBI for speedy investigation. They also apprised about the lackadaisical attitude of the investigation officer who is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has also assured the family of Late Marnya Doye of all possible help including providing the legal counsel to get justice. Pul also stated that appropriate action would be taken in consultation with the Chief Secretary and the DGP.
The CM made the assurances on Monday evening when the family members of Marnya Doye accompanied with Galo Welfare Society (GWS) executives, met and requested him to put pressure on his Maharashtra counterpart to hand over the case to CBI for an impartial probe.
In a representation to the CM, the visiting family members and GWS executives also called for providing security to Marina Doye, the victim’s elder sister and deputing an IPS officer to Maharashtra for helping and supervising the process of investigation for an impartial inquiry.
Apprising the Chief Minister about the police investigation in connection with the murder, the family members of Marnya Doye informed that the investigation was very slow due to the lackadaisical attitude of the investigation officer.
Parliamentary Secretary Home, Paknga Bage was also present and took part in the discussion. The PS Home also assured all possible help from his side, stated the GWS release.
Highway project affected people demand compensation
ITANAGAR, May 24: The people affected by the Banderdewa-Itanagar four-lane highway project have demanded compensation against their properties as per the provisions under the relevant Act.
The highway project affected people, mostly from Banderdewa, Karsingsa, Nirjuli, Lekhi, Model Village areas, in a meeting on Tuesday at Nirjuli, discussed various issues related to the proposed 4-lane highway, including assessment of properties falling within Right of Way made by the Capital Administration and compensation.
They were unanimous in demanding compensation against the properties they sacrificed as per the provision of the relevant Act as was done in case of Hollongi-Chandanagar stretch of the 4-lane highway.
Many speakers in the meeting also advocated for payment of compensation before the declaration of the construction work and inclusion of all the left outs in the compensation list.
General secretary of Itanagar-Banderdewa highway Land Affected People’s Forum Kipa Taniang informed that the administration has already prepared the list of affected people and the assessment issue was finalized in 2014. The repetition of the process only delaying the project and harassing people living in both sides of the NH-415 from Itanagar to Banderdewa, he opined.
The vice president of the Forum Tana Yoina Thomas pointed out that the tribal people have been living in both sides of the highway since time immemorial and the standing structures have been there since many years back even before the declaration of the national highway and the RoW.
TAH in Upper Subansiri district to begin soon

ITANAGAR, May 24: State government has assured to start the Trans Arunachal Highway (TAH) project in Upper Subansiri district in a month’s time. This was informed by All Tagin Youth Organization (ATYO) at Press Club on Tuesday.
“All the processes for the start of project will be dealt with within a month and then project will start immediately,” said union’s spokesperson Tato Dugi informing of the outcome of a meeting with Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on Monday.
ATYO had proposed for a 12 hours Upper Subansiri bandh call on May 23 demanding immediate start of the project in the district saying that the issue of forged bill by some individuals had led to constitution of a re-assessment committee which further delayed the project. Its other demands include revocation of the cabinet decision to cross verify the land compensation list and constituting committee for re-assessment, immediate disbursement of the compensation amount, maintenance of the road from Bopi to Tai in the district and immediate call back of the constructing agency M/S TK Engineering for the work. The bandh was called off after the CM intervened.
“When maximum of the land affected people are ready to take the compensation amount, why should the government hold back?” said the spokesperson.
The union further informed that the CM has assured to direct the construction agency to repair the portion of the road.
Power theft, carelessness causes of fire accidents: CM
Kiren visits fire victims at Seppa
SEPPA, May 24: Power theft through tapping of electricity from transmission line using loose hooks is one of the main causes of fire accidents in the State, said Chief Minister Kalikho Pul.
Pul, who visited the victims of fire accident at ALC line Seppa on Tuesday, also attributed most of the fire accidents to people’s carelessness, negligence and improper house wiring.
“I saw tapping of electricity from transmission line through use of hooks during my visits to Seppa, when I was Finance Minister,” Pul said. He appealed to all to abstain themselves from such illegal activity.
The chief minister informed that the State Government has enhanced the fire relief from earlier Rs 5,000 to Rs 1, 01, 900.
Pul after making spot verification of the site, decided to include five more partially damaged houses in the list of fully damaged taking the total number of houses damaged in the fire to 17.
Accordingly, the CM handed over ex-gratia relief of Rs 101900 to each of families of the fire victims along with additional Rs 1 lakh from his relief fund.
The chief minister also provided Rs. one lakh each to 11 victim tenants from his relief fund. Pul also provided Rs 2 lakh from his salary for the 6 ALC workers, who were identified as the fire victims. This was in addition to the immediate relief of Rs 3,800 distributed earlier to them. Pul also assured the workers to build dwelling units for them.
While insisting that there should be a portable fire extinguisher in every shop/business establishment, Pul instructed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure compliance of the provision by shopkeepers. He also directed the Superintendent of Police to keep the fire brigade ready round-the-clock so that it can respond quickly to any fire incidents. Further, he directed the DC and SP to identify places for construction of refilling centre of fire tenders.
The CM further directed the district administration to conduct inquiry to find the cause of fire accident which may help prevent fire accident in future.
Responding to an appeal made by several organizations, the chief minister promised to construct the ALC barrack at the earliest.
In the meantime, All East Kameng Students' Union (AEKSU) appealed to the chief minister through a memorandum for providing few more fire tender in Seppa.
The students union informed the Chief Minister that there was only one fire tender at Seppa which is insufficient.
In another memorandum, AEKSU also appealed to the chief minister to do the needful for making the building meant for hostel boarders of Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Seppa, functional immediately.
The building is lying unused since the college, who was functioning temporarily from it, has been shifted to its permanent campus at Wessang, the students’ union informed.
Union MoS (Home), Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday visited the fire accident site and interacted with victims at ALC Colony, Seppa.
Rijiju interacted with the colony representatives and took stock of the situation. He informed that the matter has been already discussed with Chief Minister Kalikho Pul and requested him to provide all necessary assistance.
Further, Rijiju also assured to extend necessary support in reconstruction and rehabilitation. Noticing the dense human settlement in some pockets of Seppa Township, the MoS opined that there is a necessity to frame colony-wise resettlement plan.
He also expressed his shock and sadness on the Kalakthang vehicle accident.
East Kameng DC, Rajeev Takuk, SP, T. Konia, other government officials, EKSCWO representatives and BJP district unit party workers accompanied the MoS during the visit.
Niti Aayog to visit Itanagar
Hydro-Power will boost revenue: CS
ITANAGAR, May 24: An Inter Ministerial team led by CEO, Niti Aayog Amitabh Kant will visit the state on May 31, where the Perspective Plan of the state will be taken up.
In preparation, Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, Shakuntala D Gamlin had a coordination meeting on sectoral planning of Arunachal Pradesh and hydro-power development on Tuesday.
She called for appraisal on Hydro-Power development projects adding that harnessing the potential would boost the growth of revenue deficit state like Arunachal Pradesh.
Tourism, Agriculture-horticulture and allied sectors, forest for tapping the economic potential of the state were on high on the agenda.
On the Social Sectors, where in Health, Education and Skill Development has been given emphasis under the Perspective Plan; the CS said that efforts towards Skill Development should be in tune with the roadmap for economic development of the state.
She called for time bound initiative towards promoting economic activities and enabling environment for creating gainful employment in the areas of Tourism and proper urban planning with amenities, floriculture, Agriculture, organic produces, upgrading handlooms and handicrafts to meet the global markets.
Focusing on Infrastructure, in terms of Road, rail, air and telecom connectivity, she underlined that proper infrastructure is a pre-requisite for development of the State.
Giving her opinion on the Health indicators like Maternal Health, Child health, Immunisation, Gamlin called for boosting the coverage of neo-natal care, arrest Infant mortality as she called for proper data collection and mapping of health centres.
She said that District hospitals need to be upgraded and Trauma Centres and ICU care are required for attending to critical patients. She also called for increasing school enrollment as well as promotion of Itanagar as Tourist Destination.
Earlier, the Secretary Planning, Dr. Joram Beda highlighted the various development indicators and challenges. He asked the various departments to prepare their respective Prospective Plan, based on realistic, achievable and outcome based plan.
Mass meeting at Mebo against drug menace

PASIGHAT, May 24: A mass meeting to discuss various measures to eradicate the drug menace in East Siang district was conducted in Doying Kumdang Hall, Mebo recently.
NGO-Women Against Social Evil (WASE) in collaboration with the district administration organised the meeting.
WASE appealed the district administration to issue an executive order authorizing the Gam Bura's (GBs) of Mebo, Namsing and other adjacent villages to check any suspicious premise, which hoards and sells illegal IMFL and drugs in the area.
ADC Mebo, Yemling Tayeng, Anchal Samiti Chairperson Mebo block, Dinesh Mepola and Anchal Samiti chairperson of Monggu Banggo, Kaki Ratan along with GB's, Head GB'S, PRI members, shopkeepers and the police personnel attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, All Assam Student Union (AASU) led by its organizing secy. Chitranjan Basumatary and district committee members and women group comprising of 16 members held a joint meeting with WASE at Ruksin.
The meeting decided to fight the drug menace in the Assam-Arunachal border areas. It was also discussed to hold joint awareness campaigns against drug abuse and peddling in both the states.
On May 20, the WASE team felicitated the Sille police team and gave a sum of rupees one thousand each to the six policemen for sincerely doing their duty and nabbing two drug peddlers from Oyan village. The policemen are SI V.Lowang, Constable Katin Mingki, Sanjoy Bori, S.Techi, W.Ngemu and head constable Obang Noroh.
Arunachal bag 14 medals in Intl. Taekwondo Championship
ITANAGAR, May 24: The Taekwondo players of Arunachal brought laurels to the country and the State by winning 14 medals, including 3 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze, in the second Kyorugi and first Poomsae International Taekwondo Championship held in Bhutan from May 20 to 22, organized by Bhutan Taekwondo Federation.
Sushila Sonar won one gold and one bronze medal in Kyorugi in senior girls above 76 kg category and in Poomsae in U-39 year category.
Balumso Tasipu and Jia Ul Haque won a gold medal each in senior Boys U-55 Kg and 76 Kg category respectively.
The Silver medalists are Bengia Nana, (Sr. Boys U-48Kg), Nyalin Basar (Sr. Girls U-45 Kg), Tadar Yakum (Sr. Girls U-48 Kg), Yuman Bunyi (Girls U-64 Kg), Yabi Pudu (Sr. Girls U-68 kg).
The Bronze medalists are Tamang Tok (Sr. Boys U-48 kg), Michi Tago (Sr. Boys U-72 Kg), Nicky Ngadong (Sr. Girls U-45 kg), Marpi Basar (Sr. Girls U-48 kg) and Bini Chukam (U-29 year category in Poomsae, informed team head Likha Robin.
State Wado-Kai karate team selected
ITANAGAR, May 24: Arunachal Wado-Kai Karate Do Association has selected 38 players to represent the State in the 19th All India Wado-Kai Karate Championship scheduled to be held in Gangtok, Sikkim on May 28 and 29.
The team along with four officials led by Shihan Yarda Niki will be leaving here for Sikkim on May 25.
Inter Club Badminton Championship
ITANAGAR, May 24: Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) will conduct the first State level Inter Club Badminton Team Championship, 2016 on May 26 and 27 at Raj Bhawan Badminton Hall from 2 pm.
Around 310 participants, including officials, from 25 affiliated clubs from across the state are participating in the championship.
The opening match will be played between Doimukh Badminton Club and Bamang Tadh Badminton Club.
A total of 66 matches will be held during the two days championship.
ASBA president Ratu Techi will attend the opening ceremony, informed Organsing Committee chairman Nich Bapu.

CM asks BRO to improve quality of works
ITANAGAR, May 24: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has asked the Border Road Organization (BRO) to improve the quality of works and to expedite the works under Project Udayak in eastern sectors of the state.
Pul's request came when Project Udayak Chief Engineer Umesh Chandra Mehta called on him in his office here on Tuesday, an official statement said.
The chief minister asked Mehta to maintain quality of works as there was repeated complaints of poor quality of work from the public.
He asked him to take corrective measures in order to improve the quality of works while suggesting him to conduct surprise vigilance in order to check selling of construction materials clandestinely in open market and to take stringent action against the defaulter, the statement said.
Referring to the Kalaktang accident in West Kameng district on Sunday, Pul said them to immediately clean the debris of landslide on the road once the weather is clear.
Reiterating the importance of border connectivity, Pul asked the chief engineer to expedite the works to border areas like Hawaii to Dimwe, Hayuliang to Chaglagam, Namti to Kibithu, Brahmakhund to Arowa and Roing to Anini as the roads are strategically important.
The chief minister also enquired about the progress of works of bridges over Dhipu River along Roing- Tezu road and Deopani River at Roing which are significant for inter districts connectivity between Lohit, Lower Dibang Valley and Dibang Valley districts.
Chief engineer Mehta informed Pul that the BRO was re-orienting all the works with necessary corrective measures.
He assured the chief minister that the standard quality would be maintained and selling of construction materials to the public would be checked, the statement said.
The BRO officer said the bridge over Diphu River would be completed by December this year and Roing to Koronu road via Paya will be completed by March 2017. PTI
APWS demands release of bonded labourers
ITANAGAR, May 24: Though the Centre has adopted strategies to abolish the system of bonded labour, the system is still prevailing in some districts in Arunachal Pradesh, said All Puroik Welfare Society (APWS).
Highlighting the plight and economic condition of the community, APWS in a representation to the Chief Secretary informed that 90 percent of the community members in Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey districts are still working under their employers. The figure was revealed after a survey, the APWS said. APWS appealed for conducting a proper survey of bonded labourers in the two districts by their respective deputy commissioners and release them from their employers along with provision of relief and resettlement.
APWS also urged the Chief Secretary to keep group “D” job provision for eligible Puroik candidates.
DA removes illegal structure
ITANAGAR, May 24: Upper Siang district administration with help police on Tuesday removed illegal structures on the proposed double lane highway from Yingkiong to Pasighat via Mariyang.
An RCC structure at Gobuk village was demolished under the supervision of Executive Magistrates with the assistance from the Police and compensation committee members after the owner of the structure failed to voluntarily remove their structures even after receiving adequate compensation from the Govt.
The next round of similar eviction drive will be carried out shortly.
The District Administration warned that it will not tolerate any obstruction in smooth progress of construction works of the highway. DIPRO
Another complaint against Kra-Daadi DC
ITANAGAR, May 24: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union Capital Complex has complained against Kra-Daadi DC alleging appointment of a diploma level candidate for the post of UDC.
'…The appointment was made purely on pick and choose method without conducting any written or oral interview, which has directly violated the RR rules,' the union claimed in its complaint letter to the CM.
It has demanded for cancelling the appointment order and conducting interview for the post.
Union reiterates demand
ITANAGAR, May 24: The All Pakke-Kessang Pijeriang Dissing-Passo Seijosa Students' Union (APPDSSU) has reiterated its demand to construct NH-229 as per approval.
The union has been alleging that the executing agency Sushee IVRCL Arunachal Highways constructed a shortcut of 15 kms from Ekawa/Sede to Pakro instead of executing the 31-km road stretch covering Sede to Pakro villages which was as per DPR.
The union has written to the regional officer, Ministry of Road, Transport & Highways in this regard seeking intervention into the matter saying that the diversion from the original DPR is depriving people of Sede, Sede Jollang, Nangnyo, Palin, Chamte, Gumtung, Rasi, Papu Hote, Deve Golo, Tangri Solung, Dhola, Patiwa, Pijeriang, Veo, Taroyar and Pakro villages.
Primary school inaugurated
AALO, May 24: A Primary School was inaugurated at Bagra Circle in Aalo West, Education Block by West Siang DDSE Tumto Lollen on May 22.
DDSE Lollen and CO Bagra, Jumkar Karbi emphasized on participation of parents in educational development of their children, preservation and judicious use of infrastructure with support to the teachers in bringing out the best from the students.
Tree saplings were also planted by the govt officials, PRI leaders and the GBs marking the occasion.

Condolence on demise of driver
TEZU, May 24: The officers and staff of DC's Office, Tezu have conveyed their condolences on the demise of K. Sankaran Nair (58), driver of DIPRO branch Tezu on May 23.
In a condolence meeting at the DC office, the officials expressed profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences on the sudden and untimely demise of Late K. Sankaran Nair. Two minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect for the departed and prayers were offered for the bereaved family members.
Meanwhile, all the officers and members of the staff of the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Itanagar have also mourned the death of K. Sankaran Nair. The members also observed two minutes silence for the departed soul in the office premises of DIPR, Naharlagun and expressed heartfelt grief on the demise.
Late Nair had joined as a driver in the Department of Information and Public Relation in Aug 30, 1982 and was due to retire on Nov 30 2016. He had served in Seppa, Daporijo, Naharlagun and Tezu. He is survived by his wife and two sons. DIPRO
Posting of teachers, staffs demanded
ITANAGAR, May 24: All Ato Goyor Ao Welfare Society (AGAWS) has demanded the Department of Education for immediate posting of teachers and other staffs at Govt. Residential School, Gehing under Monigong circle, and Govt. Residential School, Rapum under Mechukha circle.
In its representation addressed to the Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE), West Siang, the Society stated that despite submission of several representations since 2015 for immediate posting of teachers and other staffs in these two schools, the DDSE Office, Aalo has not initiated any steps to fulfill the genuine demands of the society.
According to him, both the schools are on verge of defunct for want of teachers.
It further claimed that the education department also failed to run the seven schools in the Goyor clan dominated areas, which include Govt. Primary School, Pangri, Govt Primary School, Komte, Govt Primary School, Sheet under Manigong Circle and Govt Primary School, Rego and Govt Primary School, Gapo under Mechuka Circle.
While expressing resentment over the alleged non-fulfillment of their demands in spite of repeated pleas, the Society urged the DDSE to initiate immediate steps to post sufficient teachers and staffs at Govt. Residential School, Geching and Govt. Residential School Rapum within 15 days.
It threatened to resort to democratic means of movement, if the demands were not fulfilled within given time frame.

The selling of expired medicines has always been a cause of concern for the people

There is a nexus between contractors, medicine companies and officials of the health department. In their lust for money, they are posing serious threat to the lives of the thousands of people who depend on government hospital for the treatment. Many poor patients who can't afford treatment in the private hospital, totally depends on govt run hospitals. It is a tragedy that contractors and govt. officials are putting poor people's life at risk due to their greed. Despite knowing about the illegal practice government rarely takes any action. However on Monday in a rare instance huge quantities of expired medicines were seized from a pharmacy at Jang under Tawang district. During the raid drug inspector found that most of the expired drug being sold were vital and life saving. Officials also found that pharmacy was not adhering to the Drugs Price Control order 2013 by overcharging beyond the maximum retail price (MRP). This is a very good step initiated by the drug inspector of Tawang district. Others should take inspiration from the drug inspector of Tawang and start checking in their respective districts.

Challenging time is awaiting Meghalaya Congress

The brilliant victory of Congrad Sangma (NPP) in Meghalaya marks a new history for the neglected state and is most possibly writing on the wall indicating fading influence of Indian National Congress across the nation. Adoption of faulty policies, lack of initiatives in rapid economic progress as well failures in the development of modern infrastructure in addition to poor leadership across the nation including Meghalaya has been decimating Congress in almost all elections. Now with strong BJP and/or NDA presence in adjoining Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland; Meghalaya Congress will have a tough time to win the next assembly election. The growing number of dissidents within Meghalaya Congress is further going to strengthen the downfall of the oldest national party. There are high chances of several legislatures moving to the other camps before the next assembly election. A challenging time is awaiting Meghalaya Congress in the not so distant future! Meghalaya stands at the juncture of a new political dynamics and the world will be closely watching the NE with interest. I sincerely pray that the new change in political dynamics in NE brings economic prosperity for the local people.

BRO is putting their best effort
Dear Editor,
It is quiet surprising that though BRO is putting their best effort, they are loathed. Amount of work, experience, knowledge and the amount of pilferage is nothing compared to our state PWD. Look at our PWD JEs, AEs, EEs and above. No site visit, but personnel residence site visit is the order of the day. It is high time people of the state start raising voices against engineering wings where less work transaction is done but more of corruption. Look at the roads being constructed and maintained by PWD. There is no check & balance, no accountability. Our state is going nowhere. Instead of pointing fingers at central govt organisation, one should first keep one’s home in order.

Dream on for good roads

Selling of road materials like cement, iron & steel rods, bitumen , sands & broken gravels , even POL items and using heavy machines like JCBS at private places in exchange of money from individuals are prevalent at interior places through BRO officers and officials. Almost 80% of total lengths of roads’ at interior places do not have concrete drainage system. Rather cements and gravels are sold to public by GREF/BRO officials. Public at places like Turing, Mechuka and in many more interior places never purchase cements and rods from commercial markets because these items can easily be gotten from BRO/GREF officers at these places. POL Items are sold everywhere by the drivers of truck or tippers and machinery like JCBS are in many places misused with the help of operators. BRO/GREF in A.P has over taken Engineers and education department in the field of corruption. Dream for good and all weather roads in AP will remain a good dream again!

Grand salute to those people who turned up to contribute/donate in cash and kinds for Seppa fire victims. Being humans, we should help each other in such situations. It needs a true humane heart and generosity that can pour out his or her kindness, sympathy, love, mercy and generosity towards other human beings.
